CNBC Your Money, a multiplatform franchise devoted to educating, motivating, and empowering people to take control of their financial futures.
Preparing financially for unexpected events is another critical aspect of her reporting – driven by her personal experience. After surviving a ruptured brain aneurysm and stroke in 2016, Sharon transformed this personal challenge into a mission to raise awareness about brain aneurysm research and recovery. She and her family established the
Sharon Epperson Chair of Research through the Brain Aneurysm Foundation to support innovative studies focused on early detection and lifesaving treatments.
A dedicated champion of financial literacy, health, and wellness, Sharon’s advocacy has been recognized by global leaders and prominent institutions. She has moderated a roundtable with global leaders on stroke prevention during the United Nations General Assembly. Sharon also participated in President Obama’s Advisory Council on Financial Capability, moderating discussions on ways to increase financial knowledge to help millions of Americans make sound financial decisions.
In 2025, December 5th was proclaimed “Sharon Epperson Day” by the New York State Senate Majority Leader, and December 15th was proclaimed “Sharon Epperson Day” by the Westchester County (NY) Board of Legislators in recognition of her professional work and volunteer achievements. She has received numerous awards, including honors from Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Alliance for Women in the Media, National Association of Black Journalists, and National Urban League Guild.
Sharon is a graduate of Harvard University and Columbia University and holds honorary doctorates from Carlow University and Mercy University. She is a proud Pittsburgh native who is honored in the Taylor Allderdice High School Hall of Fame.
A wife and mother of two, she resides in Westchester County, New York.
